First week back in SA

It's been almost a week since I left Dubai.... it's quite a strange feeling, although I am very happy that I am back in this beautiful country of mine.

The last day before I left Dubai was crazy... I had a lot of final arrangements and packing to do. My bags were stacked, I could hardly move it! Also, arrived at the airport and found out that my bags were overweight with 2,6kg - initially Emirates wanted to charge me AED110 per kg overweight but then I tried my luck and asked them if they could oversee it as I am going home permanently.
Finally the supervisor said it's fine :) sigh of relief for me!!

Then, on the plane it was strange.... not one of the crew came to talk to me and it honestly just felt like I was going on holiday for a few days.
Now, I am settling in back home - it's quite busy at the moment! Have a lot of Wedding arrangements to sort out and also need to update my CV and start looking for work soon-ish. Decided I will go back into Finance (have the most experience, so better I stick to what I know).

I am sorry if I am taking a while to respond to all of your emails and facebook messages - it's been a bit crazy for me the last few days/week!

:)

Last day in DUBAI

Today is my last day in Dubai! Wow, how this month flew.... I mean ok, the last week has been dragging and felt like it would never end, but here I am - very last day left in Dubai!

What a remarkable journey it has been! I am actually going to miss this silly, fake city - especially the shopping!!
At the same time I have never been more excited to fly back home!

The leaving formalities were quite hectic and even stressful at times. I just received my last pay check - cashed it at the bank :) always a good day when it's  payday!!

I had the option to cargo a few things back home, up to 100kg - decided I didn't need that because I was under the impression I could use 100kg as normal check-in luggage - was completely wrong! I am limited to taking 50kg, and I am afraid my bags (the way it's packed currently) are weighing much more than 50 together. Too late now to choose the sky cargo option, because I needed to get clearance 2 days before my flight and my flight leaves in less than 24 hours!!!!! Big headache for me because this means I will have to leave a few valuable items behind....

So you can all imagine how busy the rest of my day will be and it's already 13:00
Still need to go get my eyebrows shaped, buy a few food items and repack all my bags.
At least this will make time fly and before I know, I will be sitting on that plane! :)

14 Months of living abroad is finally over... and it leaves a sweet-bitter feeling!! I know that I will miss a lot of benefits this job has given me, and I will always treasure this chapter in my life in my heart! Wow - I actually flew with the best Airline in the World! PROUD.

17 Days to go....

Only 17 days left!!! I can't believe how time is flying - literally!! I've received a lot of response on my last blog, and I want to take the time to thank all of you for always reading my blog! It means the world to me and I am so glad that I actually inspire people from around the world to follow their dream!

At the moment I am in South Africa, visiting my family. Tomorrow night I will fly back to Dubai, and then I only have 3 flights left! 2 Turnarounds and my last layover ever will be New York baby! I am very lucky to end my journey of flying by spending it in my favorite destination!!

Speaking of NY, on my last trip to this lovely city, I was not at all impressed with the hotel! They gave me a handicapped room!!!!!!!!

This is the room - 2821

As you can all imagine, I was not impressed after just completing a 14,5 hour flight! I mean, the bathroom had only a shower, which was also handicapped (I could literally sit down while having a shower!!) and the bed was way too soft, my back almost collapsed after spending the night there. To top it off, the room looked like a hospital and smelled like old people!

At least I had a nice view from my room:

On the way back to Dubai, I met the cutest little Asian Boy - he was crying non-stop so I told his mother that she should give him to me so that we can pose for a photo together:

Lol, needless to say, he started crying soon after the photo was taken! But, at least I have this photo as a good memory.... I am so happy that I took this opportunity of working for the best airline! It's memories which I will treasure for always and one day I will look back, read this blog again and hopefully share these memories with my children :) you only live once right?!

Back to my holiday in SA: Had a nice date night on Saturday night, we went to our favorite restaurant called 'Boabab' - had amazing red wine and I had a Prawn Curry Potjie for main, chocolate mouse for desert and the best company a girl can ask for!

I hope everyone had a good holiday season and for those attending open days soon - all the best of luck! Believe in yourself and go get your dream!

End of a Journey...

“For everything in this journey of life we are on, there is a right wing and a left wing: for the wing of love there is anger; for the wing of destiny there is fear; for the wing of pain there is healing; for the wing of hurt there is forgiveness; for the wing of pride there is humility; for the wing of giving there is taking; for the wing of tears there is joy; for the wing of rejection there is acceptance; for the wing of judgment there is grace; for the wing of honor there is shame; for the wing of letting go there is the wing of keeping. We can only fly with two wings and two wings can only stay in the air if there is a balance. Two beautiful wings is perfection. There is a generation of people who idealize perfection as the existence of only one of these wings every time. But I see that a bird with one wing is imperfect. An angel with one wing is imperfect. A butterfly with one wing is dead. So this generation of people strive to always cut off the other wing in the hopes of embodying their ideal of perfection, and in doing so, have created a crippled race.”

An end to a wonderful journey! I have submitted my resignation and this will be my very last month in Dubai, working as Cabin Crew for the best Airline in the World.

It was a challenge, it was happiness, excitement, sadness, hard work, stubbornness, lonely, blissful but most importantly: it was worth it!
In this year and a bit I have found myself, I have grown into a mature woman and now I know what I truly want in life - therefor I have to say good bye to this journey so that I can begin a new one - one that I have wanted forever, even more so than being Cabin Crew and that is to be a wife and ultimately a mother.

I want to thank each and everyone of you who have taken the time to read and follow my blog - I hope it was valuable and interesting in so many different ways! I hope it inspired you to also follow your dreams and I wish you all the luck in applying for the job! Just believe in yourself and go get it! Nothing comes easy in life, it takes dedication and lots of hard work and even tears.

I had the opportunity to fly to 28 different cities! I met people from all over the world, and yes it was magical but yet, it's not as glamorous as it seems ;)

I will keep on updating the blog as I go on... I don't know when I will actually stop blogging, only time will tell but for now, I hope you will still continue to read whenever I do write a blog :)

May you all have a super 2014 and I believe it's going to be one of the best years!

Much love x0x
